If you want your Blogger website to rank higher on Google and attract more traffic, optimizing your blog for SEO is essential. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the Blogger SEO settings and actions you can take step by step.

How to do SEO settings on Blogger

Let’s start our journey toward making your blog more visible on Google and reaching a wider audience.

Section 1: Basic

Every blog starts with its identity—its title, description, and language.

  • Title: Your blog’s name appears in search results. Keep it short, clear, and memorable. For example: “Niyander – Tech & Gaming Blog.”
  • Description: This is your blog’s meta description. It should explain what your blog is about in 150-160 characters. Example: “Niyander Blog shares articles on Tech, Gaming, Tips & Tricks, and everyday insights.”
  • Blog Language: Set it correctly (English in your case). Google uses this to understand your content.
  • Adult Content: Only enable if your blog contains adult material. For most blogs, leave it unchecked.

Section 2: Privacy

  • Visible to search engines: Always allow search engines to find your blog. If this is off, Google won’t index your site, and your posts won’t appear in search results.

Section 3: Publishing

  • Blog address : yourblog.blogspot.com
  • Custom domain
  • Fallback subdomain
  • Redirect domain

Blog Address means your current domain name that is shown to you.

Custom Domain: If you have something like yourblog.com, you can add it here. My advice is to leave it as it is for now, since we are just learning SEO. Adding a custom domain is a separate topic, and I will explain it in detail in another post.

Section 4: Publishing: Secure Your Blog

  • HTTP & HTTPS redirect: Always enable HTTPS.
  • This ensures your blog is secure and Google prefers HTTPS websites for ranking.

Section 5: Permissions

Reader access → Public

  • Keep your blog public so anyone (and search engines) can access it.
  • Add other authors only if needed. For SEO, it’s best to have consistent posting from one main author for authority.

Section 6: Posts

  • Max posts on main page: Keep it low (e.g., 5 posts) to avoid clutter and improve page speed.
  • Archive frequency: Monthly is ideal for most blogs.
  • Image settings: → Enable
  • lazy load: → Enable
  • WebP image serving. → Enable
  • Image lightbox: → Enable

Tip: Fast-loading pages and organized posts help both readers and Google.

Section 7: Comments

Note: Keep it default

Section 8: Email

Note: Keep it default

Section 7: Formatting

  • Set your time zone and date formats correctly.
  • Consistent formatting makes your blog professional and easier for Google to understand.

Section 8: Meta tags

Enable search description: → Enable

Search description: Example: ” Niyander.blogspot.com shares articles related to Tech, Gaming, and Study, along with Tips & Tricks. ”

Note: This description can appear in Google search results. Keep it concise and keyword-rich.

Section 9: Errors and Redirects

  • Custom 404 page: Create a friendly page to guide lost visitors.
  • Custom redirects: Redirect broken URLs to relevant posts.

Note: It’s best to keep the default for now.

Section 10: Crawlers and Indexing

The Crawlers and Indexing section is one of the most important settings in Blogger. Here, you can create a robots.txt file that tells Google bots how to crawl your blog. The robots.txt file gives instructions to search engines about which parts of your site should be crawled or ignored. In addition, you need to add your sitemap inside this file. When a Google bot visits your blog, it first reads the robots.txt file, finds the sitemap, and then follows it to discover all your posts. This process helps Google understand your content and index it properly in search results.

Enable custom robots.txt → Enable it

User-agent: *
Disallow: /search
Allow: /
Sitemap: https://niyander.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

Copy the code given below and paste it into Notepad. Then, replace this line:

https://niyander.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

with your own blog URL, like this:

https://yourdomain.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

After making the change, copy the updated code and paste it into the Custom robots.txt section of your Blogger settings.”

Enable custom robots header tags → Enable it

  • Home page tags → Select: All, noodp
  • Archive and search page tags → Select: noindex, noodp
  • Post and page tags → Select: All, noodp

    Section 11: Monetization

    • Ads.txt: Needed for AdSense; doesn’t affect SEO.
    • Blog feed: Keep it full to allow RSS readers to get your content.

    Note: Keep it default

    Section 12: Manage Blog

    • Import content
    • Back up content
    • Videos from your blog
    • Media from your blog

Manage Blog Section – Explained Simply

    • Media from your blog: This is where all your blog’s images are stored. Similar to Google Photos, but it keeps your blog-related images organized in one place.
    • Import content: If you have an old Blogger or WordPress blog with many articles, you can export that blog’s content as an XML file and then import it into your new blog. This helps you move everything without rewriting.
    • Back up content: Use this option to create a backup of your blog. It’s always a good idea to keep a copy of your posts and settings safe.
    • Videos from your blog: Any video you upload to your blog posts is saved here. Think of it like Google Photos, but only for the videos you’ve added to your blog.
    • Remove your blog : Do not click this option, as it can permanently delete your blog. Be careful and avoid it unless you truly want to delete your site.
